DOT draft Active Transportation Plan, 2020 and Beyond

January 19 - February 14

Free
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) invites you to review and comment on the draft Active Transportation Plan, Part 1. You can provide comments by clicking on the SurveyMonkey link. Comments are due by midnight on Sunday, February 14, 2021.

“Active transportation” is movement from place to place by walking, running, cycling, using a mobility assistive device such as a wheelchair, or using a small personal device such as a foot scooter or skateboard. The Washington State Active Transportation Plan, 2020 and Beyond, Part 1, provides a foundation for the development and evolution of the statewide active transportation system. As decision makers at every level of government confront budget realities, information on how to identify and evaluate active transportation needs is more critical than ever.

We are developing this plan in two parts. Part 1 identifies the purpose and need of statewide active transportation, current state and benefits of active transportation use, what WSDOT learned in community engagement and public outreach during the plan’s development, and the methodology and results of a statewide needs assessment focused on state routes. Part 2, which includes discussion of relevant policies, performance metrics, and next steps, will be developed and released for comment in 2021.

We appreciate your input, which will help us improve this plan. This survey provides space for general comments on each chapter, comments by page and line number, and specific elements in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 we ask you to reflect on. At the end we request demographic information to help us understand whether those commenting on the plan reflect the makeup of Washington’s population.
